The FEPS mission to Brazil in February 2024 aimed to exchange views and analyses on central issues to the relationship between Europe and Brazil.

Brazil has been elected as the host country for COP30, in addition to their position of Presidency of the G20. This is an opportune moment to discuss how to strengthen strategic relations between Brazil and Europe, and understand how the two sides can work better together to advance the challenge of building a common progressive and democratic vision.

At this time of diverse challenges for the two regions and the world, and in a context of threats from the populist right and the possibility of them becoming even stronger in this election year, the dialogue between FEPS and key Brazilian actors focuses on discussing transitions of power in the international order, the need for reforms of the multilateral system, the Security Council, and the international financial architecture, among others.

During the mission, FEPS President Maria João Rodrigues and Project Officer Thainá Leite met with:

  • Ambassador Celso Amorim, former Minister and current Special Chief Advisor to President Lula
  • Cida Gonçalves, Minister of Women’s Affairs
  • Gleisi Hoffmann, National President of PT and Member of the Chamber of Deputies
