The green transformation of society is both a necessity and an opportunity for a better and healthier life. But it requires a lot of money. If the financial possibilities of the state are limited, the question arises as to who will pay for it. We should not demand a sufficient financial participation in the costs of the green transformation from those who pollute the environment the most in their way of life, i.e. from the richest? The question is to what extent the state has set up tools and schemes for compensation and support of “green” investments for those households that cannot afford them themselves.

How the richest can be taxed, what resources it would mean for the EU, what the European Parliament can do in this area, was discussed at the final event of the FEPS-FES-Proforum ‘Tax the rich’ project with Brigita Schmögnerová, Proforum President, Branislav Ondruš, Member of the European Parliament for Hlas-SD, and Richard Filcák, Chief of Prognostic at the Department of Slovak Academy of Sciences, on the 29 October 2024 between 17:30 – 19:00 at the Goethe Institute in Bratislava.

This event was part of a joint project of FEPS, the Progressive Forum (Proforum) and the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) to raise awareness and collect signatures for the ‘Tax the rich’ ECI in the Slovak Republic.

The panel discussion was in Slovak. For more information on the event, please do not hesitate to contact Vanessa Zwisele, FEPS Project Officer (vanessa.zwisele@feps-europe.eu).
