Progressivism after COVID: Experiences, impulses, ideas‘ is the 12th volume of the Next Left book series, launched by FEPS and Karl-Renner-Institut in 2009.

Since its inception, the intention has been to promote innovative ideas that could serve in the debates about the Future of Social Democracy. And to that end, the series provides connecting point between academia and politics, as also between the national and EU discussions.

Here the readers can find results of research conducted, under the leadership of Andreas Schieder, Chair of SPÖ Delegation, by the members of the Focus Group in the years 2020–2022. This time they studied diverse aspects of social-democratic performance during the difficult COVID time.

Henceforward, their conclusions underpin a set of viable proposals regarding

  • how to govern in these challenging times and implement centre-left agenda
  • how to safeguard democracy and promote social progress
  • how to consolidate Europe further, making it capable of persevering and transforming the midst of the multilayer crisis
