Hungarian version below

As Hungary took the helm of the European Union presidency, a unique opportunity arised to reignite the flame of unity and progressivism within the nation and across the continent. Against the backdrop of challenges posed by authoritarian rule, Budapest became the stage for a gathering of democratic, socialist, and green activists determined to shape a brighter future

On 25-26 October 2024, the Foundation for European Progressive Studies (FEPS), in collaboration with Solidar, the Group of Socialists & Democrats in the European Parliament (S&D), the Hungarian Delegation to the S&D Group and Hungarian democratic and socialist foundations organised the “Call to Europe” conference. This upcoming conference not only symbolised a resurgence of hope but also underscored the urgent need to refocus on how Europe serves its people.

A free Hungary in a stronger Europe wass the guiding motto of this new edition of Call to Europe. But what did it mean exactly? Freedom means living in a real democracy, where corruption is rooted out, the media is free, and everyone is treated equally under the law. Freedom means being free from daily struggles, where good jobs, affordable housing, and quality healthcare allow people to live with dignity. Freedom means feeling secure about the future, protected from the threats of war and the challenges of climate change

Key topics of the conference included accessible true democracy, accessible public services, sustainable infrastructure, universal welfare, quality housing and renewable energy.

A new Hungary is within reach – one that leads with openness, justice, and hope, standing tall within a more united, stronger Europe.

In Budapest, amidst the exchange of ideas and the forging of alliances, this conference marked a pivotal moment in the journey toward a Europe that truly delivers value for its citizens, guided by principles of solidarity and progress.

  • Munkahely, egészség, lakhatás – Progresszív vezetés a közös jólét érdekében
  • Fiatalok hozzászólásai a “Szabad Magyarországért”
